Find your people

Some PFLAG Tampa gatherings are about support. Some are about learning. Some are just an excuse to eat garlic bread in a park with a bunch of LGBTQ+ people and the people who love them. All of them are about connection.

Yes, the name is literal. Join PFLAG Tampa for a gloriously unserious afternoon in the park built around good food, good people and an extremely reasonable appreciation for garlic bread.

This is what showing up looks like.

Over the years, PFLAG Tampa has gathered to celebrate, remember, raise support, advocate and simply be together. Different reasons. Different rooms. Same idea: community happens when people show up for one another.

of leading with love
01 • Celebrate

Ten years deserved a party.

PFLAG Tampa marked its 10th anniversary the way a community milestone should be marked: together.

It was a chance to celebrate the people who built the chapter, the people who kept showing up, and a decade of support, education, advocacy and friendship across Tampa Bay.

Sometimes community work looks like testimony and advocacy. Sometimes it looks like getting everybody in the same room and celebrating how far you’ve come.

02 • Remember

Every year, Tampa gathers to remember.

Since 2019, PFLAG Tampa has helped convene Tampa’s annual Transgender Day of Remembrance gathering, creating a public space to honor transgender people lost to violence and to stand visibly with Tampa Bay’s trans community.

At this gathering, we honored Jenny DeLeon alongside community members and Tampa City Councilman Luis Viera.

Remembrance is part of how we show up: saying their names, honoring their lives, and making sure our community is seen.

Sometimes the community throws the fundraiser.

At this gathering with Tampa Pride, local community leaders and supporters came together to raise funds for PFLAG Tampa.

The event brought together Mark and Carrie of Tampa Pride, the founders of NY NY Pizza in Ybor City, and members of the broader Tampa LGBTQ+ community.

PFLAG Tampa has never done this work alone. Our strongest moments happen when community organizations, local businesses and people decide to show up together.
